Music piracy ('muziekpiraterij' in dutch) is a very complex phenomenon to comprehend. These pages wishes to address all of you who are interested in music piracy in a broad sense. You'll find 2721 articles related to music and video piracy (with special attention to articles from Belgium and the Netherlands) originating from 526 unique (web)sources. I started archiving news articles about music and video piracy since 1999. In 2001 I wrote a scientific dissertation about music piracy for my Master's degree in Communication Sciences at the K.U.Leuven. This dissertation incluced a survey among 1500 individuals.

Opnieuw zijn illegale Bittorrentsites op sommatie van BREIN aan hun eigenaren en service providers offline gehaald. Deze keer 6 sites met ongeveer 70.000 geregistreerde gebruikers en 9.000 torrentlinks naar illegale bestanden. In totaal zijn er nu 162 illegale p2p-sites met ongeveer 1,6 miljoen geregistreerde gebruikers gestopt.

De Nederlandse consument downloadt vooral illegaal muziek en is zich daarvan ten volle bewust. Dat blijkt uit een representatief onderzoek onder 322 Nederlanders, uitgevoerd door marktonderzoeksbureau Synovate/Interview NSS. Piraterijbestrijder BREIN wijst erop dat downloaden van illegaal aanbod door de Minister van Justitie is toegestaan onder meer omdat de consument het verschil tussen legaal en illegaal niet zou kunnen maken. Die veronderstelling wordt door de uitslag van dit onderzoek tegengesproken.

AC/DC Bypasses iTunes: Should Apple Care?

Today the band AC/DC says it's bypassing Apple's iTunes and has brokered an exclusive deal with Verizon to sell its music through Verizon's online music store. Eminem Sues Apple Over iTunes Downloads

Everyone wants a bite out of Apple the days. Apple was sued in early July for copyright infringement concerning Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend." Apple came under fire yet again in late July when Jose Trujillo filed an anti-trust lawsuit against the company over the iPhone's lack of a user-replaceable battery and "poor" battery life. Today, it's rap artist Eminem's turn to bite down to Apple's core. In a multi-million dollar lawsuit filed on Monday, Eminem's producer (Eight Mile Style) and his copyright manager (Martin Affiliated) claim that Universal Musical Group was never authorized to allow the download of his music from iTunes.
