Music piracy ('muziekpiraterij' in dutch) is a very complex phenomenon to comprehend. These pages wishes to address all of you who are interested in music piracy in a broad sense. You'll find 2721 articles related to music and video piracy (with special attention to articles from Belgium and the Netherlands) originating from 526 unique (web)sources. I started archiving news articles about music and video piracy since 1999. In 2001 I wrote a scientific dissertation about music piracy for my Master's degree in Communication Sciences at the K.U.Leuven. This dissertation incluced a survey among 1500 individuals.

Grote illegale bittorrent site Demonoid offline na dagvaarding BREIN

BREIN maakte eind vorige week naar aanleiding van de uitspraak in het Kort Geding over Everlasting bekend dat zij de hosting provider Leaseweb ook gedagvaard had met betrekking tot een grote internationale bittorent website. (...) BREIN heeft een door TNO ontworpen steekproef van het aanbod op Demonoid genomen. Daaruit blijkt dat gemiddeld 93.8% van de toegankelijke bestanden als illegaal zijn aan te merken. Uit de controle van de inhoud bleek dat minstens 92,4% van de als illegaal aangemerkte bestanden daadwerkelijk bruikbaar was. Geen van deze bruikbare werken bevatte andere content dan de titel van de torrent aangaf.

Maker Twilight- en CrazyBites-cd's veroordeeld

Over 23 million pirate CDs and DVDs were seized by customs at European borders in 2006, according to the latest figures from the European Commission yesterday. The 139% increase in the seizures of discs (audio, games, film, software) compared to 2005-2006 points to the increasing damage that piracy is doing to the creative industries in Europe and the European economy.
