Music piracy ('muziekpiraterij' in dutch) is a very complex phenomenon to comprehend. These pages wishes to address all of you who are interested in music piracy in a broad sense. You'll find 2721 articles related to music and video piracy (with special attention to articles from Belgium and the Netherlands) originating from 526 unique (web)sources. I started archiving news articles about music and video piracy since 1999. In 2001 I wrote a scientific dissertation about music piracy for my Master's degree in Communication Sciences at the K.U.Leuven. This dissertation incluced a survey among 1500 individuals.

Finnish court rules CSS protection used in DVDs "ineffective"

Tilburger gepakt met 2.500 dvd-kopieën

In het Nederlandse Tilburg heeft de politie bij een huiszoeking onverwachts 2.500 gekopieerde dvd's gevonden. De woning werd gisterochtend doorzocht op gestolen goederen, waarbij de politie de dvd's en professionele kopieerapparatuur aantrof. De 46-jarige bewoner van het huis is opgepakt. Hem hangt maximaal zes jaar cel boven het hoofd.

Illegal Downloading In Decline Among Youth

Based on surprising survey results released on Tuesday, the Business Software Alliance concluded that illegal downloading among people ages eight to 18 has dropped significantly in the last three years. The percent of kids who participated in any form of piracy went from 60 percent in 2004, to 36 percent in the latest 2007 survey. (...) "This study indicates that parents represent a growing and effective influence on the online practices of youth," said Diane Smiroldo, vice president of public affairs for BSA, in a statement.

Music giant EMI agrees takeover

UK music business EMI Group has agreed to be bought by private equity firm Terra Firma for £3.2bn including debt. The group, whose artists include Robbie Williams and the Beatles, has been the subject of bid speculation for the past year as its business has struggled. It previously rejected a takeover bid from US industry rival Warner Music. The firm has seen sales decline dramatically in recent months and said on Thursday that it had made a £260m loss in the past year.

FBI's Software Piracy Crackdown Operation Nets 50th Conviction
