Music piracy ('muziekpiraterij' in dutch) is a very complex phenomenon to comprehend. These pages wishes to address all of you who are interested in music piracy in a broad sense. You'll find 2721 articles related to music and video piracy (with special attention to articles from Belgium and the Netherlands) originating from 526 unique (web)sources. I started archiving news articles about music and video piracy since 1999. In 2001 I wrote a scientific dissertation about music piracy for my Master's degree in Communication Sciences at the K.U.Leuven. This dissertation incluced a survey among 1500 individuals.

Film, Music Industries Backing Off Smaller U.K. Pirates?

Speaking at a panel at the Digital Hollywood Europe show in London, Paul Jessop, the chief technology officer for the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) said that, to date, the agency has not filed any suits against music downloaders. (...) According to Jessop, users who upload a file to a server risk the legal ire of the IFPI, but those that pick and choose individual files for download via a Web browser are not worth the effort. Ook freakytorrents reageerde niet op de sommatie van BREIN waarop gisteren verhaal gezocht werd bij de hostingprovider die onderdak bood aan de site. De site werd vrijwel onmiddellijk afgesloten en toont nu de tekst "Op last van brein is er besloten om deze site definitief op te heffen". Freakytorrents gaf 11.000 geregistreerde gebruikers illegaal toegang tot ongeveer 650 populaire film-, muziek- en softwarebestanden. (...) Indien providers willens en wetens doorgaan met het hosten van illegale sites dan kunnen ook zij vanaf dat moment aansprakelijk gehouden worden.

Spanish court rules free music downloads are legal for own use

Tijdens de huiszoeking werd door de politie een mediatheek van meer dan 10.000 originele geluidsdragers die op aanvraag en tegen betaling werden gekopieerd op CD-r.
