Music piracy ('muziekpiraterij' in dutch) is a very complex phenomenon to comprehend. These pages wishes to address all of you who are interested in music piracy in a broad sense. In 2001 I wrote a scientific dissertation about music piracy for my Master's degree in Communication Sciences at the K.U.Leuven. This dissertation incluced a survey among 1500 individuals.

Napster legaal in Nederland

Op grond van het Amerikaanse auteursrecht heeft Napster geen poot om op te staan. De Nederlandse Auteurswet bevat echter wel een gaatje waar het bedrijf doorheen zou kunnen glippen. Napster Amerika is dood, lang leve Napster Nederland!

IFPI wil strengere Europese regels tegen muziekpiraterij

Offline piraterij is nog steeds de grootste boosdoener, erkent de IFPI. "Maar de internetpiraterij groeit exponentieel", aldus de belangenvereniging in een persbericht. (...) Jean Michel Jarre, de Franse synthesizervirtuoos, is een petitie gestart met de titel: 'Artists Unite for Strong Copyright'. De artiest heeft inmiddels de handtekeningen verzameld van 1400 Europese artiesten. (...) "De huidige tekst van de copyrightrichtlijn is niet technologievriendelijk", aldus Russel. "Er wordt ruimte gelaten voor Europese overheden om te interveniëren en onze technische maatregelen te storen. Dat is niet goed voor de platenwereld en niet goed voor de Europese gemeenschappelijke markt.
